All required floral courses are offered every semester. 

The Floral Design Certificate of Completion prepares you for an entry-level position in the floral design industry. This comprehensive program introduces a variety of floral design skills and techniques.

Earn your certificate of completion as a professional credential in floral design or take the floral courses simply for the pleasure of working with flowers. Create a beautiful floral arrangement each session to enjoy at home. 75 per cent of our floral instructors are Canadian Accredited Floral Designers (C.A.F.D.), giving students an exceptional learning opportunity.

Program Notes
Limit of 18 students per course. The Floral Design course content and learning is structured to benefit students most when taken in order of Level 1, then Level 2 and last Level 3. All flowers and plant materials are included in floral course fees, but students are asked to bring some of their own supplies, for example floral tools, a bucket, newsprint and garbage bags. Requirements vary by course. Details are provided on the registration confirmation for registered students.

Earning Your Certificate of Completion
Complete the three required floral courses (54 hours) with a minimum of 80% attendance.

Career Outlook
Successful completion of the Floral Design program may lead to an entry-level position in the floral industry.

Required Courses

Floral Design, Level 1
Explore the basics of floral design, including the care and handling of fresh flowers. Be introduced to the fundamental concepts of floral design and gain the necessary foundation for employment in the floral industry. Create and take home a different finished floral arrangement after each class.
Note: Fresh flowers and containers supplied.

Floral Design, Level 2
Advance your floral arranging skills with exciting new design ideas. Gain valuable hands-on experience with current industry concepts. Principles of design and techniques for handling fresh flowers are discussed and put into practice as you create and take home a different completed floral arrangement after each class.
Note: We strongly recommend completion of Floral Design, Level 1 before registering in this course. Fresh flowers and containers supplied.

Floral Design, Level 3
Further develop your creativity and explore the elements of design. Have the opportunity to practise the latest trends in floral design technique. Discuss the care and handling of a variety of different flowers, including tropicals, and then use them to create distinctive, stylish arrangements to take home.

Professional Development Courses

Historical Floral Designs
Since the beginning of time, flowers have reflected various lifestyles, values and special occasions. Floral art of today has been influenced by floral history, colour trend, designs and decorations. Explore floral history concepts and practical application for Roman-Greek, Renaissance, Baroque, Victorian, American Colonial and Art Nouveau designs.
Note: We strongly recommend completion of Floral Design, Level 2 or one year  working in the floral industry before registering in this course.

Introduction to Floral Wedding Designs
Expand your knowledge of floral design by exploring the basics of being a wedding florist. Explore topics such as care for special products, pricing, availability and ordering of flowers. Delve into wedding floral design concepts and practical applications for wedding bouquet styles, pew bows, corsages, flower girl pieces and floral centrepieces.
Note: We strongly recommend completion of Floral Design, Level 2 or one year of experience in a floral shop before registering in this course. Fresh flowers and containers supplied.

Corsage Workshop
Enhance your ability to create exciting fresh floral corsages. This 6-hour workshop reviews proper wiring techniques, pricing, new products, hot glues and their application, and knowledge of appropriate body flowers. Create a wrist corsage, shoulder corsage, hair flowers and boutonniere. Limit of 15 students. Subject code: XFLD 10076

Basic Hand-Tied Bouquet
Make a round hand-tied bouquet using a grouping technique and finishing off the stems with a French knot design using raffia. Take home a beautiful rose hand-tied arrangement you created yourself. A glass vase is provided for you to display your flowers.

Floral Wedding Designs, Level 2
Gain the edge over your competition by enhancing your portfolio of advanced floral wedding techniques, including a cultural piece. Create elegant floral wedding design compositions each class, and expand on your historical and cultural knowledge of flowers and their ever-present appearance at weddings through the ages.
Note: We strongly recommend completion of Floral Design, Level 3, Introduction to Floral Wedding Designs or two years of experience in a floral shop before registering in this course.

Funeral Floral Designs
This one-day workshop is suitable for professionals in the floral industry and those seeking to expand their floral arranging skills. Funeral floral designs have evolved over time due to flower availability, more efficient designs concepts and practical application. Discover how to create a standing spray, urn spray and memorial piece. Complete a floral wreath in class.

Fun Floral Courses Offered This Semester 

Come on your own or with friends and enjoy a few hours out while creating a beautiful arrangement for your home or as a gift for someone special. Beginners  are welcome in all classes.

Fall Rhapsody Bouquet
Create a vibrant autumn bouquet using a spiral technique. This round hand-tied bouquet is created using red apples, yellow sunflowers, orange hypericum berries, seasonal grasses, goldenrod and various greens. A glass vase is provided for you to display your flowers.

Outdoor Fall Container
The beauty of your garden can continue long past the growing season. Create a beautiful floral outdoor fall container using greenery, branches and berries and enjoy your creation throughout the fall and winter seasons. 

Ikebana, The Art of Japanese Floral Design
Ikebana is an art form created in Japan, using flowers and plant materials to express the beauty of nature, emphasizing line, rhythm, space and harmony. Express your creativity through this art form, whether you are new to floral arrangement or would like to broaden your skills. Bring home a beautiful Ikebana arrangement each week.
Note: limit of 15 students.

Fresh Christmas Wreath
Excite your senses with the smell of fresh Christmas greens as you create your own Christmas wreath for your front door. This fresh Christmas wreath is created using a wire wreath form, lotus pods, amaryllis blooms, berries, twigs and an assortment of pine and cedar boughs.

Outdoor Christmas Container
Make a stunning outdoor Christmas container for your garden or front yard using an assortment of greens such as cedar, pine, fir, branches, pine cones and amaryllis blooms. Enjoy your outdoor Christmas container creation throughout the holiday season. 

Christmas Table Centre and Decorations
Create a festive table for Christmas. Build a fresh floral centrepiece with mixed Christmas greens, fresh flowers, ribbon and candles. Create your own festive napkin rings and design ten place cards for your holiday table. Explore how to create a theme for your festive table.
Note: Limit of 15 students.

Create Your Own Valentine Floral Arrangement
Dare to be different this Valentine’s Day and create your own hand-tied heart-shaped armature from curly willow. Acquire techniques for making armatures and insert your flowers and foliage in groupings. Your sweetheart will be delighted with this unique creation and beautiful variety of flowers and foliage. 

Easter Blooms
Create a stunning Easter floral design incorporating hydrangea, trachelium, roses, curly willow and Easter eggs. Explore the technique of interlacing flowers to create a natural grid within the vase and create a nest-like armature from the curly willow that frames the entire design.
