Internal Renovations 2022
With capital funding from the provincial government and private funding from the Don and Ruth Taylor family, some exciting new student spaces are coming to the MRU campus. These much-needed renovations will convert unusable areas that currently sit empty into modern and functional spaces with a student-centred purpose. Work will be done in two phases: W-wing in 2021/22 and G-wing to start in 2022/23.
Phase 1: Renovation of the former Conservatory space in W-wing
Work began October 2021
Construction is expected to be completed and furniture, fixtures and equipment installed in summer 2022.
Project description
The former Conservatory spaces, which now sit empty, will be converted into four new classrooms covering an area of approximately 1,000 square metres: two 78-student standard classrooms, a 56-student flexible learning space and a 56-student active learning classroom. There will also be study alcoves in the main corridor.
Design and demolition are underway.

Phase 2: Renovation of the former Library space in G-wing
Renovations of the former library space in G-wing will start with the space closing effective June 17, 2022.
Project description
Phase 2 involves repurposing the old Library space off Main Street. Given the central location and large area, there is potential for this space to be:
- another hub and gathering space for the campus and the community
- a connector to other areas on campus, including indoor and outdoor spaces
- flexible to needs and opportunities, rather than dedicated to groups or function
- innovative so people passing by or in the space are exposed to new ideas and experiences
More information about Phase 2 will be shared in the months ahead.
