Make Student Hiring Easier by Accessing Funding Support
MRU’s Career Services team works hard to support its partners when they set out to hire students for work terms. To help make the process easier, we research potential funding sources that can benefit employers looking to hire MRU students.

Funding Requirements & Deadlines
Each subsidy program is unique in its application requirements and submission deadlines, which take place at different times during the year.
Here is a brief overview of some of the subsidy programs:
- Student Work Placement Programs (SWPP) provide wage subsidies to employers offering work-integrated learning placements. Funding for some SWPP programs, like Magnet Student Work Placement, resurge at the beginning of each semester but applications close once the available funds are fully distributed. There are numerous providers of SWPP, which are detailed below.
- The Canada Summer Jobs program provides wage subsidies for not-for-profit organizations and public sector employees, as well as for private companies with 50 or fewer full-time employees, so they can hire young people aged 15 to 30. The program's hard and fast deadline is mid-January.
- MITACS provides funding for eligible internships; funding is available for the fall, winter, and spring semesters.
