Ablution stations
Wudu - الوضوء is Arabic and means the specific action of washing certain body parts. Muslims are required to perform wudu before offering prayers five times a day. Mount Royal has designated ablution stations located at W208A (male) and W208B (female)Being welcome to use any washroom that matches your gender identity is life affirming. For some members of our community who are trans or gender non-conforming, public washrooms can be stressful spaces, with stares, questions and even verbal harassment or physical violence. As all-gender washrooms are for everyone, they are safer spaces for everyone.
All-gender facilities benefit other members of our community as well, including parents with small children, those with health issues who need privacy and caregivers who may be accompanying someone of another gender. Everyone can access the washroom they feel most comfortable using.
You can also use the searchable function on this MRU map to see the locations of these all-gender/gender-inclusive washrooms. Type in "all-gender" or "gender-inclusive."
These washrooms are available for public use.

There is a parent room located in the main campus building on the third floor of the W-wing in W332 that is available for nursing.
The parent room is for members of the campus community requiring a place to attend to specific needs of young children and to meet the needs of nursing parents. It is available (open) during campus hours of operation and pre-booking is not required. The room provides: a quiet place to breastfeed, bottle feed or express milk privately; comfortable seating; baby change tables; microwave; waste disposal; small fridge; and a small safe play area.
There is a private area for nursing parents who chose this level of privacy and their privacy should be respected. Individuals using the room must maintain appropriate standards of hygiene and cleanliness and clean the facilities they use each time they use the room. To ensure the hygiene of all children, parents should clean the change table before and after each use.
This is not a general play area for children on campus (not a daycare area). Parents retain ultimate responsibility for the supervision and safety of children in their care. They must ensure supervision of children at all times.
A Mediation Centre at W201 and space for Friday Prayer at U111 are available for members of MRU to engage in personal prayer.
The Meditation Centre (W201) is currently open with a maximum capacity of five people in the room at a time due to COVID-19 restrictions. Room U111 is closed at this time. We thank you for your understanding.
Mount Royal University displays the National Flag, Treaty 7 Flag, Provincial Flag, Métis Flag and the Mount Royal University Flag on five flag poles near the TransCanada Amphitheatre and Bissett School of Business building.
All of the flags are permanent except the Mount Royal University Flag, which may be removed so other flags can be flown during special occasions.
Mount Royal follows the established practices of the Government of Canada for raising, displaying and half-masting the National Flag. Because the National Flag leads the protocol for other flags at the University, federal practices are given precedent.
From time to time the flags are lowered to half-mast because of a death within or outside of the University community.
They are also lowered to half-mast on days noted by the federal government’s Canadian Heritage Department including:
- April 9: National Day of Remembrance of the Battle of Vimy Ridge
- April 28: National Day of Mourning
- June 23: National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism
- Last Sunday in September: Police and Peace Officers National Memorial Day
- November 11: Remembrance Day
- December 6: National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is used to help people experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. It is an automated easy to use machine that will analyze a patient's heart rhythm and if necessary deliver an electrical shock or defibrillation. It helps re-establishes a proper heart rhythm when used on someone experiencing cardiac distress.
