mru has partnered with the urban society for aboriginal youth and wilderfutures to offer the alliedfutures project — a journey from truth to reconciliation and beyond.


throughout the month of march, business leaders, teams and community members across Treaty 7 and beyond are invited to join the five-part knowledge-sharing series led by settlers, Elders and knowledge keepers. this event series will be partnered with an online, interactive toolkit offering a variety of guided resources and reflexive learning and unlearning opportunities.

as a collective, we’ll create a space for discussion and knowledge sharing to guide and educate ourselves as we follow the journey to Reconciliation and beyond.

the $100 commitment to this project grants you access to the five-part webinar series in conjunction with our online interactive toolkit which will continue to be available to you after the month-long journey.

all funds raised will be donated to our partnered organization, urban society for aboriginal youth.

this is a beginning effort at describing the use of lower case on the website of the office of indigenization and decolonization.

the goal of equity, diversity and inclusion of all people is synonymous with the interests of Indigenous people. we support and expand the goal of equality and inclusion to all forms of life and all people. we join leaders like e. e. cummings, bell hooks, and peter kulchyski, who reject the symbols of hierarchy wherever they are found and do not use capital letters except to acknowledge the Indigenous struggle for recognition.

is your mind coloinzed? a poster campaign at mount royal university is challenging students, faculty and staff to think deeply about their beliefs and biases regarding Indigenous people and colonization in canada.

and while the posters have become a familiar sight and talking point on campus, the campaign by the office of Indigenization and decolonization has captured albertans and canadians as a whole to continue down the path to reconciliation.

  • if your organization is in the education sector or non-profit, you can register to participate in one or all three of the poster campaigns.
  • if your organization is in the corporate sector, you can register to participate in one or all three of the poster campaigns. minimum $100 donation. as mru moves to decolonize and Indigenize, the donation you provide will enrich and enable traditional thinkers from surrounding communities to engage, teach and enhance all aspects of mru's opportunities to learn authentic Indigenous ways of knowing.

nov. 8 — national Indigenous veterans day

  • recognition of national Indigenous veterans day began in 1994 and was inaugurated in winnipeg. national Indigenous veterans day recognizes Indigenous contributions to military service in the first and second world wars and the korean war. it occurs annually on november 8. since its inauguration, it has spread nationwide. 

métis nation

the métis people of canada laid many of the economic foundations that established and built canada. the first métis people emerged in eastern canada in the early 1600s with the arrival of european explorers. when french and scottish fur traders married Indigenous women, the cree, Anishinabe (ojibway) and their descendants formed a distinct culture, collective consciousness and nationhood. the métis people in british columbia and many of the first nations people of bc and other areas of canada are designated “non-status” for various reasons.

mru's office of Indigenization and decolonization is partnering with the traditional paths society's decolonizing our minds book club. this virtual reading group will explore the philosophy that reconciliation cannot happen without or before decolonization. the group seeks to engage readers’ minds with works from Indigenous authors. they will meet online bi-weekly, providing a respectful space to discuss and reflect upon Indigenous literature about decolonization. register.

 support stardale women's group

for more than 25 years, stardale women’s group has empowered the lives of Indigenous girls, strengthened their families and inspired communities to engage in the core values of reconciliation. they offer programs and services to Indigenous young women and girls in overcoming systemic barriers.

one of the ways stardale helps girls heal and connect with their culture is through the art of drumming. the stardale girls have specifically been taught and perform Indigenous medicine songs which are thought to be healing and encourage inner peace and connection. The intention behind their songs is to heal, uplift, calm and connect. 

mru hosted the stardale drumming group as part of the international women's day celebrations.
