What education do I have to declare?

When you apply to Mount Royal University, you are required to declare every prior high school and post-secondary institution you have attended, regardless of how long you attended or its relevance to your program of interest. Failure to accurately declare your full educational history is a breach of the terms and conditions you agree to upon applying to MRU, and could result in consequences including longer processing times, admission being revoked, or other consequences as determined by Student Community Standards.

Please check the "My Application Status" section of your Future Student Portal to review the educational history you have declared. If you have attended additional high school or post-secondary institutions that are not listed on your Future Student Portal, please contact us immediately at aro@mtroyal.ca so we can update your application.

 

What transcripts are required for admission?

Most programs at Mount Royal require that you submit official transcripts for all high schools where you completed grade 12 courses and for every post-secondary institution you have attended. The following programs have exceptions:

  • Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing Post Diploma Certificate - Critical Care Nursing Stream and Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing Post Diploma Certificate - Emergency Nursing Stream: high school transcripts are not required unless you intend to use them to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement; official transcripts are required for every post-secondary institution you have attended
  • Athletic Therapy Post Bachelor's Certificate: high school transcripts are not required unless you intend to use them to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement; official transcripts are required for every post-secondary institution you have attended
  • Bridge to Canadian Nursing Certificate of Achievement: high school transcripts are not required unless you intend to use them to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement; official transcripts are required for every post-secondary institution you have attended only if you intend to be admitted through the transcript assessment pathway
  • Business Administration Post Bachelor's Certificate - Advanced Accounting, Business Administration Post Bachelor's Certificate - Human Resources, and Business Administration Post Bachelor's Certificate - Marketing: high school transcripts are not required unless you intend to use them to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement; official transcripts are required for every post-secondary institution you have attended
  • English Language Program: neither high school nor post-secondary transcripts are required unless you intend to complete the LEAP to Credit pathway
  • Embalmer Certificate, Funeral Director Certificate, Funeral Service Diploma, Massage Therapy Diploma, and Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma: neither high school nor post-secondary transcripts are required unless you intend to use them to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement

All other programs require that you submit official transcripts for all high schools where you completed grade 12 courses and for every post-secondary institution you have attended.

 

What transcripts are required if I am a current student looking to change programs?

If you are a current student (currently attending classes or within the Allowable Absence) looking to change programs, transcripts are only required from any schools you have attended since you last applied to Mount Royal University.

 

Where do my transcripts need to come from?

Your high school and post-secondary transcripts must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution:

 

High school in Alberta
Your official high school transcripts from within Alberta will be ordered automatically on your behalf at the appropriate times as long as the Alberta Student Number (ASN) you provided on your application is correct. If your ASN is incorrect, we will contact you for further information.

High school in Canada (outside of Alberta)
Your official high school transcripts from within Canada, but outside of Alberta, must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution:

Please contact the relevant issuing institution directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

International high school
Your official high school transcripts from outside of Canada must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution as long as they are issued in English. Please see our International Credentials website for more information on which transcripts, documents, and/or credentials you are required to submit based on the country in which you attended high school.

If your official high school transcripts from outside of Canada are issued in a language other than English, please see the "Transcripts issued in a language other than English" section for further instructions.

If you have a World Education Services (WES) credential evaluation, we will accept the transcripts in your WES file as official provided that they are issued in English. However, we will not use WES' course and grade assessment. Please ask WES to release your digital file to Mount Royal University.

Public post-secondary in Alberta (except for University of Calgary Continuing Education, including Academic Upgrading)
Your official public post-secondary transcripts from within Alberta (except for University of Calgary Continuing Education, including Academic Upgrading) will be ordered automatically on your behalf at the appropriate times* as long as the Alberta Student Number (ASN) you provided on your application is correct. If your ASN is incorrect, we will contact you for further information.

*Please note: if you complete Spring semester courses, you must arrange to have these transcripts sent to us at the appropriate time; they will not be ordered automatically.

University of Calgary Continuing Education, including Academic Upgrading
Your official University of Calgary Continuing Education, including for all Academic Upgrading courses, must be sent to us as official copies directly from the University of Calgary. Please contact the University of Calgary directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

Public or private post-secondary in Canada (outside of Alberta)
Your official public or private post-secondary transcripts from within Canada, but outside of Alberta, must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution. Please contact the post-secondary institution directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

Private post-secondary in Canada (including in Alberta)
Your official private post-secondary transcripts from within Canada must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution. Please contact the post-secondary institution directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

International post-secondary
Your official post-secondary transcripts from outside of Canada must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution as long as they are issued in English. Please contact the post-secondary institution directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

If your official post-secondary transcripts from outside of Canada are issued in a language other than English, please see the "Transcripts issued in a language other than English" section for further instructions.

Transcripts issued in a language other than English
If your official post-secondary transcripts are issued in a language other than English, we will instead require a certified English translation from a valid translation service worldwide. A valid translation service is a certified translator or translation agency accredited by the province, state, or country where the translator works. The International Federation of Translators can help you find an accredited translator.

The translation service must attach a photocopy of the original transcripts to the translation and verify that they are a true copy. These documents must be sent to us directly from the translation service.

Advanced Placement (AP)
Your official AP transcripts must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution, College Board. Please contact College Board directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

International Baccalaureate (IB)
Your official AP transcripts must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution, International Baccalaureate. Please contact International Baccalaureate directly to arrange to have these transcripts sent to us.

Homeschool
If your homeschooling program was accredited by the provincial Ministry of Education in which you were homeschooled, your high school transcripts must be sent to us as official copies directly from the issuing institution.

If your homeschooling program was not accredited by the provincial Ministry of Education in which you were homeschooled, you will not receive credit for high school courses, and no high school transcripts are required.

Where should the issuing institution send my transcripts?

Transcripts can be officially submitted to MRU by the issuing institution in one of three ways:

  1. By email: the issuing institution can send transcripts directly to MRU by email to transcripts@mtroyal.ca. Transcripts sent by the student will not be accepted.
  2. By mail: transcripts can be sent by mail from the issuing institution directly to the Admissions and Recruitment Office at MRU. The address is as follows:

  3. Through MyCreds: MRU is a MyCreds receiving institution, meaning that if the issuing institution participates in MyCreds as a sending institution, you can request your transcripts be issued to us this way. Please contact the issuing institution for instructions on how to request your transcripts through MyCreds. You can then send them to Mount Royal University as a receiver. When in the admission process do I send my transcripts?

Your high school and post-secondary transcripts may need to be sent to us multiple times throughout the admission process, depending on your educational history:

​​You also need to make sure that all of your final, official transcripts are received by MRU by August 1.

Currently in high school
If you are currently in high school, you must submit your official high school transcripts at the following times:

  1. Immediately after you apply (only if you have already completed any grade 12 courses at that time)
  2. After your first semester grades are available (approximately January)
  3. After your second semester grades are available (approximately July)

Any grade 12 courses required to meet general and program-specific admission requirements must be completed by June 30.

If you have completed dual-credit courses, please note that you will also have to submit your official post-secondary transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

If you have completed Advanced Placement (AP) classes, please note that you will also have to submit your official AP transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

If you have completed International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, please note that you will also have to submit your official IB transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

Out of high school
If you have completed grade 12 courses at a high school that you are no longer attending, you must submit your official high school transcripts at the following times:

  1. Immediately after you apply
  2. After your grades are available if you complete additional grade 12 courses outside of high school

Any grade 12 courses required to meet general and program-specific admission requirements must be completed by June 30.

If you have completed dual-credit courses, please note that you will also have to submit your official post-secondary transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

If you have completed Advanced Placement (AP) classes, please note that you will also have to submit your official AP transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

If you have completed International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, please note that you will also have to submit your official IB transcripts as soon as those grades are available.

Currently in post-secondary
If you are currently in post-secondary, you must submit your official post-secondary transcripts at the following times:

  1. After your Fall semester grades are available (approximately January)
  2. After your Winter semester grades are available (approximately May)
  3. After your Spring semester grades are available if you complete Spring semester courses (approximately July)

You must also submit your official high school transcripts at the appropriate times.

Out of post-secondary
If you have completed post-secondary courses at a post-secondary institution that you are no longer attending, you must submit your official post-secondary transcripts at the following times:

  1. Immediately after you apply
  2. After your grades are available, if you complete additional post-secondary courses
You must also submit your official high school transcripts at the appropriate times.
